Job Description
The Utilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, heat pumps and water treatment processes. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, performing routine inspections, conducting repairs, and optimizing system performance to support overall facility operation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operate and monitor ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, heat pumps, and water treatment equipment.
• Conduct regular inspection to ensure all systems are functioning correctly and efficiently.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, including charging of oil, and replacing worn out parts.
• Troubleshooting and diagnose issues with refrigeration systems, boilers, heat pumps, and water treatment equipment.
• Execute repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
• Adhere to all safety training protocols and regulations related to ammonia handling and other utilities.
• Participate in safety training and emergency response drills.
• Maintain proper documentation of safety checks, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
• Assist in the optimization of energy usage and system performance.
• Recommend upgrades or modifications to improve system efficiency and reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to implement system improvements.
• Monitor water quality parameters and perform necessary adjustments to chemical dosing systems.
• Maintain accurate records of water treatment processes and results.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding wastewater discharge.
• Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs performed.
• Prepare reports on system performance needs, and any incidents that occur.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members regarding operational status.
• Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and facility personnel to ensure seamless operations.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss ongoing projects and share knowledge.
REQUIREMENTS
• Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent; technical degree or certification in HVAC, refrigeration technology, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant experience in ammonia refrigeration, boiler operations, heat pump systems and water treatment processes.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to utilities operations
• Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Willingness to work in various environmental conditions (example, outdoors, confined spaces, and cold rooms).
• Availability for shift work or on-call duties as required.
